Far too often, radio personalities will put a caller on the air because they called.
Please, don’t. You’re the professional broadcaster, not the caller.
Before airing a phoner, ask first:
1. Is the audio crystal clear?
2. Did the caller say something new and interesting?
If the answer to either question is “No”, don’t air it. If the call is airworthy, edit, edit, and edit some more … down to only the part worth putting on the air. Don’t waste a second with hellos, goodbyes, or tangents, just cut to the good part.
If you don’t have time to edit, you don’t have time to air it.
